Freebies at the Mall

Who doesn’t love to go to the mall and find free stuff? This week, my daughter and I had fun shopping for a new bunch of freebies. We visited Wet Seal, Bath and Body Works, Origins, and New York and Company. I printed double coupons so she could shop with me. She is learning the art of shopping including how to pay for purchases, asking for what she wants, and using coupons to get more for her dollar. Our first stop was Wet Seal. They have a coupon for a free Chilosa tank top by Prima J Tank. They also … Continue reading

What’s Happening at the Mall? Part 2

As I mentioned in my previous blog, Whats Happening at the Mall? the kids and I went to the mall Saturday. We had a lot of fun finding deals and a bunch of goodies we each wanted. I asked my eight year old daughter what she learned from this shopping trip and she said, “Always use coupons and you will get more.” I think I have a coupon queen in the making! My daughter had the most fun at Limited Too. She received $5 off her purchase because she brought in her report card and showed it to the associate. … Continue reading

D23 Expo Headed to Japan

D23, the official Disney fan club, just keeps getting bigger and bigger.  Tickets are already on sale for the much-anticipated D23 Expo in August, and the club just announced another huge convention for 2013, this one abroad.  The D23 Expo is hitting the road, and will come to Japan on October 12-14, 2013. The D23 Expo Japan will not just be a carbon copy of the one held in Anaheim months prior.  Although there will be a lot of overlap, in merchandise and in smaller events, the Japan expo will be unique.  It’ll be held mostly in Japanese, with events … Continue reading

What Would You Force Your Spouse To Do?

I know the word “force” seems a little strong, and generally speaking in a healthy marriage you’d never think of “forcing” your spouse to do anything, but there could come a time when force is needed. For instance, say your spouse was witness to some injustice, either at work or on the streets, but they were afraid of speaking up. You know speaking up’s the right thing to do, but you can’t seem to convince them. Until you get the bright idea to force them to, either by driving them to the police station or setting up a meeting with … Continue reading

The Dear Abby from a Distraught Widower

Yesterday Jade sent me an email with this enticing subject line: “Speak now or forever hold your peace.” At first I thought she was sending me some info about people wanting to get married who wouldn’t be able to for very much longer for one reason or another. Maybe because a popular marriage destination was closing or something. (Not that I know of anything like that happening anywhere. That’s just the conclusion I jumped to.) But, oh no, it was nothing innocuous like that. It was a link to Yahoo! News and a Dear Abby column posted there on Sunday … Continue reading

Pet Kidnapping on the Rise

According to statistics from the American Kennel Club, pet kidnapping is on the rise. It’s a statistic that’s difficult to track, to be sure. Pet theft is categorized with other property theft in official police reports, so the AKC and other groups have to rely on anecdotal evidence. But law enforcement agencies agree that pet theft — especially dog theft — is higher in 2008 than in the past. In the first half of the year, the AKC caught wind of three times as many dog thefts as there were in the first half of 2007. Why steal a pet? … Continue reading

Wal-Mart Freebies

In my previous blog, Freebies at Target, I stated that I am trying to decide whether or not it’s worth it to spend 2-3 hours a week organizing my coupons. Can I really cut down our grocery bill by using coupons? In my Target experiment, I saved $22.95 when I bought cat food and toiletries with my coupons. Next, I went to Wal-Mart. I divided my groceries into two categories – food and household items. I bought $42.05 in household items for $4.20. I used 32 coupons. Here’s what I found: 10 cans of Meow Mix Cat Food for .46 … Continue reading

Freebies at Target

Recently, a blog, written by Mary Ann Romans, “New Grocery Shopping Techniques 2” got me thinking about using coupons and if they are really worth the effort. The blog claims coupons are not worth using anymore. I currently belong to several coupon trains and cut up several newspapers inserts each week. I spend 2-3 hours a week staying organized. So I started wondering if maybe she was right so I tried a little experiment. How much can I save using as many coupons as possible? Can I still get freebies or items we use under $1? I decided to try … Continue reading
