Mailing Coupon Envies - Postage Guidelines & Tips

by Jody Connolly (Benjaminna) | More from this Blogger

How many stamps and how many coupons

No one has their own personal post office at home, and not everyone has time to run to the post office every time they have something to mail, especially if you get into doing several coupon trades with other people. So, when you are mailing out coupons, how do you know how much postage to put on the envelope? Here is a simple guideline you can use when mailing coupons:

0-45 coupons = .39c 50-100 coupons = .63c 100-150 coupons - .87c

The guideline above is based on regular clipped Sunday insert coupons. Remember that there are different types of coupons. Some are cardboard or cardstock paper, which weighs more. Keep this in mind when counting your coupons. In addition, I suggest using a business size envie if you are mailing anything over 50 coupons. Trying to cram too many into those tiny envelopes makes the envelopes fatter and may cause problems at the post office.

Postal and Kitchen Scales

Postal scales are a great way to be more accurate. If you are doing a lot of trades and mailing out a lot of coupons you can get a postal scale to help make sure you are putting enough -- or not too much -- postage on your envies. Naomi has informed me that you can find some cheap kitchen scales at the dollar stores, and they are accurate. Keep an eye out for them at yard sales also.

When using a scale to weigh your envie you can use a chart which you can find at www.usps.com

First Class Mail Rates

1 oz. $0.39 2 oz. 0.63 3 oz. 0.87 4 oz. 1.11 5 oz. 1.35 6 oz. 1.59

You can also go to http://postcalc.usps.gov/ and calculate how much postage it would cost to mail an envie by typing in the to and from zip, and entering how many ounces the envie weighs.

Addressing Envelopes (You can find the following information at www.usps.com)

• Placement Print the delivery and return addresses on the same side of your envelope or card.

• Addressing Letters & Packages Print or type clearly with a pen or permanent marker so the address is legible from an arm's length away.

• Return Address A return address helps return the mail to you if it is undeliverable.

• Military Mail You must show the grade, full name with a middle name or initial and PSC number, unit number or ship name. Replace the city name with "APO" or "FPO," and the state with "AA," "AE," or "AP'" and use a special ZIP Code
