I have been a member of StarSampling.com for several years now, and I enjoy the site very much. It is FREE to register, and once you sign up you can request various samples and offers that are available on your personal page at the site. Samples may sometimes vary, depending on your age or gender, so you may not always be able to order all of the samples that may appear on the main page of the website when you are not signed in. The sample sizes that you can receive from StartSampling.com are often larger than samples you might receive randomly in the mail. In the past I have received samples of shampoo and conditioner, and they are often small trial size bottles, perfect for traveling, rather than those little silver packets with just enough for one use. These sample bottles are often the size of those you might purchase for a dollar or two in the trial size area of your local drugstore. You can always choose which samples you would like to receive, and do not have to choose every single one that is listed on your personal StartSampling page. I really liked it and it was cool to find free stuff in my mailbox, like you mentioned. That's how I got turned on to rinse and re-use Bounty. I was cleaning the kitchen and ran out of paper towels, so I was happy when I found that sample. I finished cleaning up with that one towel. They really do work!
