More Teens Drink and Drive on New Year’s Eve Than Other Holidays

A recent study shows that teenagers are more likely to drink and drive on New Year’s Eve than on any other holiday. The study also showed that peers can influence their friends not to drink while under the influence. Even so, parents should talk to their teens about the dangers of driving drunk. A study was done by Liberty Mutual Insurance and SADD. The acronym “SADD” stands for “Students Against Destructive Decisions”. It is a peer-to-peer youth education, prevention, and activism organization that is committed to empowering young people to lead initiatives in their schools and communities. Auto insurance can be more expensive than some people can afford. The cost can make people put off buying a vehicle, since they cannot afford the car insurance to go with it. The type of vehicle you drive can play a factor in how much your car insurance premium will be. The flashier the car, the more a person pays for car insurance. No matter what you are … Continue reading

But knowing how much fun they can be now, there is no going back. If you have any of these types of … Continue reading

Last-Minute Halloween Reminders

Halloween is still a few days away, but trick-or-treating has already started in my neck of the woods. In Wisconsin, individual municipalities are given the power to determine their own trick-or-treat times. In recent years, many communities have designated the weekend prior to October 31st as the official period where kids can “legally” go door-to-door collecting free candy. Safety is the main motivator behind the move. Law makers believe it’s safer for children to trick-or-treat on a weekend when the traffic is lighter. In addition, having kids hit the streets in costume on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon increases the … Continue reading

While the cost of gas has fallen slightly in the last couple weeks, from its highest levels since July 2008, Americans are still paying nearly a dollar more per gallon than a year ago. As a result, families from coast-to-coast continue to restructure their summer vacation plans in order to preserve their household budgets, and still have fun in the sun. That goes double for clans living in and around Chicago. According to … Continue reading

Parents with Parking Privileges

My daughter cackles like Woody Woodpecker each time I drive past the stork parking spaces at Wal-Mart and suggest she get back into my tummy, so that we can snag the sweet spot. It’s a great joke. Kind of. Maybe. Ok, I’m not really joking. I really wish the kid could crawl under my shirt so I could pull into the first stall… but only during the winter months… and when I am in a hurry… and during the back-to-school sales and… Who am I kidding? I would love to bypass the jokers in the parking lot, who drive like … Continue reading
